Describe how you work in a team.
I try to work within a team with the acronym H.E.R.S as taught to me by my dad.
The “H” standing for humility because it is a privilege to be on a team and there are a lot of girls whom don’t get the opportunity to experience how awesome it is. “E” represents equaled & shared responsibility. I am part of a team and I have job to do and they expect me to do my part, as do I expect them to do theirs in order for us to be successful. “R” is the relentless pursuit of excellence. We will not be perfect, but I will do everything I can to help us get as close to that as possible without sacrificing those around me in order to do so. “S” is the best one π It represents sense of humour. Stuff will go wrong always…no matter how good the plan is and it is important to stay positive and just “roll with it”. Laugh it off, adapt to the situation and move forward.
Athletic highlights and how you felt when you received them:
Humble, as it takes a team achieve them and I can’t be successful without them. I find winning as a team more rewarding to be honest. I do find a sense of pride also, as I work hard to be the best athlete I can be.
What are your interests outside of sports? Why do you like them?
Camping and bonfires. Being at the beach. Fishing. Working out.
I find all these things help me relax and chill. I love being outside and outdoors π
Who are your role models and why?
My mom & dad π
My dad always has a calming voice and wisdom when I feel I don’t know what to do. Reassures me that things will be alright and loves to tell me “this too shall pass”. He always makes me smile and laugh and gives the best hugs!!!
My mom is beautiful, smart and is always helping me with my school and when I am upset or sad, she is always there for me. Plus she drives me all over the place for my sports and teammates and is a good cook!
Involvement in other sports or extracurricular. Why is it important for you?
I think it is very important to play other sports as I find it helps me complement volleyball. Playing basketball helps me with lateral movement and speed. Track helps with cardio and power. Handball helps me with strength which hitting. I like trying new sports always π
It also helps me with my mental and emotional state.
Academic highlights and how you felt when you received them?
I felt proud to make the honour roll as it can be hard to balance school and studies. I worked hard to get above 80% in my classes and will help me be a good post secondary athlete.
What program would you like to attend in school?
Kinesiology
How do you envision your school life in college/university?
Busy, fun, difficult, scary (away from home) and rewarding!
I think trying to balance school and sports will be the biggest challenge. My dad was a student athlete with the University of Manitoba and he is helping me prepare for it and my mom has her Masters and is a teacher so she is helping me get ready for the studies….should I be honoured enough to get a chance. But either way, college and university sounds exciting! π
