Describe how you work in a team.
My goal is to be a good teammate. I work hard and I make it a point to be a good communicator with coaches and teammates. This includes being positive, supportive as well as offering and receiving constructive feedback so we can all work well together. Practice or game, I try to set a good example by working hard all the time.
Athletic highlights and how you felt when you received them:
Receiving the OVA Award of Excellence the past two seasons are personal highlights. Being recognized for the person and teammate I am is the greatest feeling of accomplishment.
In grade nine, my school volleyball team won the High School City Championship. We played against a great team where the gym was very loud with fans from the other school. It was an exciting and proud moment.
What are your interests outside of sports? Why do you like them?
I like to exercise, spend time with my friends, family and my dogs. Exercising keeps me active and feeling good and my time with friends, family and my dogs is my time to relax and have fun.
Who are your role models and why?
My tumbling coach, Dan and my dad are my role models. They both have helped me be confident in myself, to not be afraid to make mistakes because I can learn from them.
Involvement in other sports or extracurricular. Why is it important for you?
I was a Provincial Champion in Tumbling and played hockey for 4 years. I am also part of my high school track and field team. Playing other sports has helped me be a better volleyball player, as tumbling increased by confidence, resiliency and my calm nature on the court. While hockey stressed communication, and teamwork.
Academic highlights and how you felt when you received them?
I am an Honors student, and my favourite subject is math. I won the Math award in Grade 8, and I was proud of myself and the work I put in.
What program would you like to attend in school?
I am not entirely sure what program I would like to take. With my interest in math, I am thinking either engineering or health sciences.
How do you envision your school life in college/university?
I envision a full schedule of training, studies and developing life-long friendships with my teammates, other students, and coaches. I can’t wait!
