Describe how you work in a team.
I feel that communication is one of the most important aspects of team sport. Without good communication, teams fall apart. I actively communicate with group members as well as accept feedback so there are no conflicts or miscommunication. When I’m in a team I also make sure that everyone feels supported and included to ensure that everyone can contribute authentically so all members can do their best at all times.
Athletic highlights and how you felt when you received them:
One athletic highlight I received was the most improved award from my swim club. When I received this award I was of course happy, however I also felt noticed. I started off the swim season as one of the younger and less experienced swimmers. Throughout the swim season, with the help of an amazing coach who taught me to always be confident and constantly pushed me past my limits, I excelled tremendously and became one of the stronger swimmers in my group. By the end of the swim season I was racing against swimmers almost two years older than me. Receiving this award made me feel recognized for my accomplishments as well as learning that hard work pays off. I was also grateful for having a coach who pushed me to excel.
What are your interests outside of sports? Why do you like them?
An interest that I have which is interconnected with sports is working with young kids. I currently volunteer at my old elementary school to help coach their volleyball teams. I love volunteering and coaching kids as it helps me practice my leadership skills. I also enjoy watching the kids grow and seeing their happiness when they learn a new skill or fix a prior mistake. Another interest that I have is playing the guitar and bass guitar. I love playing music as it brings my focus away from everyday life to the piece that I’m playing. Learning new songs makes me feel a sense of accomplishment, happiness and it’s a creative outlet for me that is very different from my academics and athletic focus.

What program would you like to attend in school?
I’m interested in health science, more specifically sports medicine. As an athlete I have had my fair share of injuries, learning the healing and recovery process (both mentally and physically) really interests me and I would like to learn more about it. In the future I aspire to become a paediatric sports medicine doctor to combine my love of working with kids and sports.
