Describe how you work in a team.
I always strive to be the best teammate I can be by leading by example, encouraging others, remaining humble, connecting, working hard, being accountable, and being a solid and trustworthy presence on the court.
Athletic highlights and how you felt when you received them:
Maple Award winner for Team Alberta Black- This is the award I am most proud of because it was presented to me for being a good teammate, working hard, having a great attitude, and helping the team win the Canada Cup.
MVP – High School Jr Team – This was a big honour because as the captain, my leadership on the court helped the team win City Championships. I also played almost every set of every game all season.
What are your interests outside of sports? Why do you like them?
My main interests outside of sports are spending quality time with my family, friends and my 2 dogs. I also love to be active and get outside in nature. At school, I am a dedicated student and hold myself to a high standard of academic achievement. I also attend church, am part of a youth group, and volunteer where I can at school and with sports. I find that making time for my interests and for the people that I care about helps me to stay grounded and live a full, balanced life. It also enables me to bring the best version of myself to the court.
Who are your role models and why?
Gisele Krueger is one of my role models because she has remained very involved and relevant in the volleyball world in the years after her university career. Gisele has been an elite athlete, a USport Champion, a coach, a mentor, and she created The Winner Will program which provides mental conditioning training for athletes. Gisele is authentic, she connects at a deep level, and she makes a profound difference in the lives of the athletes that she helps as they navigate their struggles. Like Gisele, I hope to always remain connected to volleyball and to have an opportunity to give back to the sport I love.
Involvement in other sports or extracurricular. Why is it important for you?
I was involved in competitive dance until high school and it was helpful for developing the body mechanics, coordination, and core strength necessary for volleyball. Other extracurricular activities such as school clubs, church, and youth group have helped me to be well-rounded and to form connections with others outside of volleyball.
Academic highlights and how you felt when you received them?
Receiving honours with distinction felt very validating because I put a lot of effort into my schooling and my education is very important to me.
What program would you like to attend in school?
I am not exactly sure which career path I would like to take, but I would likely apply to either general sciences or kinesiology.
How do you envision your school life in college/university?
I envision my school life in university to be challenging in a positive way, and very rewarding. Playing high-level volleyball at the varsity level, with others that share my passion for the sport, has been the dream from the beginning, and I know I will embrace every aspect if given the opportunity to realize that dream. I am confident in my ability to balance my academics with the demands of varsity sport, and I look forward to challenging myself, connecting with my teammates and coaches, and making memories that I will have for a lifetime.
