Describe how you work in a team.

I work well in a team because I believe that the key to being successful is improving everyone in the group. I am a leader on and off the court by encouraging my teammates and giving them help when they ask for it. I also think that it important that people on a team are working together, so I try my best to make sure that everyone on my team is included in activities and group discussions.

Athletic highlights and how you felt when you received them:

– Getting a provincial all star in 2023 club season

Getting this award was one of the highlights of my volleyball career because it was a reflection of all the work that I did that year to get better. The coaches of the top 10 teams are the ones that vote for the all stars and it was encouraging to be told that coaches on other teams appreciate the work I do. I think that I was awarded it because of my leadership on the court through both skill and encouraging my teammates.

– Voted team co-captain in 2023 club season

What are your interests outside of sports? Why do you like them?

Some of my interests outside of volleyball is running. I enjoy it because it is an activity where I am able to push myself. Since I don’t do it competitively like volleyball, I don’t compare myself to others and I am able to adopt the mindset “me vs. me”.

Who are your role models and why?

My biggest role model is my older brother. He has played volleyball his whole life and currently plays post-secondary, but it wasn’t always so easy. I have seen his struggles with coaches, teammates, and politics in this sport. What I admire most about him is how he always kept a positive attitude and kept working hard no matter what because he knew that he would eventually gain success if he did that.

Involvement in other sports or extracurricular. Why is it important for you?
