Describe how you work in a team.
I am a dedicated team player as I know the importance of team work. I have a lot of respect for my team mates and coaches, this is demonstrated by me arriving to games/practices and meetings early, listening and valuing what others have to say. Over the months/years I had made it my goal to get to know my other team mates better. Knowing the likes and dislikes of my team mates has given me the opportunity to know how to support them when they are struggling and has given them the opportunity to know that they can lean on me for support. I have gained a lot of skills, experience and knowledge over the years that I have been playing volleyball and I have been able to shares these and learn more from being on my team.
When I go on the court I go on with a positive attitude and this increases my ability to think clearly and work better with my teammates.
In volleyball communication is very important as it helps improve performance. I use my communication skills both on and off the court. After each game/practice despite the outcome I am able to reflect with my team mates and coaches by discussing what we did well and how to improve on things. As part of a team I like to receive feedback to avoid mistakes in the future.
Athletic highlights and how you felt when you received them:
In school I have always played on the senior team both in junior high and senior high. Getting the athlete of the month awards both in Grade 8 (2019) and 10 (2021) came to me as a surprise especially in Grade 10. Again in 2019, while I was in Grade 8 I placed 2nd in the city championship for shot put.
With the above accomplishments I felt proud that my hard work had paid off and I wanted to work harder in the sport that I love.
What are your interests outside of sports? Why do you like them?
Outside sports I spend time with my friends and family. I have 2 older brothers who I am very close to. As a family we get to do a lot of things together like travelling and attending social events. With my friends we spend time together watching movies and hanging out in each others house where we spend time cooking and baking. When I am not spending time with friends and family I like going to the gym to work out. I like going to the gym to keep me fit. I like being around my friends and family as my relationship with them helps in the development of social skills.
Who are your role models and why?
My mom is my role model. My mom is very hard working and dedicated. My mom inspires and motivates me and she is my biggest supporter.
Involvement in other sports or extracurricular. Why is it important for you?
In Junior High I did shotput
In my spare time I play basketball for fun with my brothers and I also go to the gym to work out. Taking part in these activities not only keeps me fit but also enhances my mental wellbeing.
Academic highlights and how you felt when you received them?

Grade 10 Honors, average above 90%.
Grade 9 Honors, average above 80%.

What program would you like to attend in school?

Kinesiology
Health and exercise

How do you envision your school life in college/university?
I envision my school life in College/university with me being a dedicated and hard working student athlete. I envision school life to be busy with volleyball and academics and I am really looking forward to it and also making new friends.
