Describe how you work in a team.

When I’m on a team, I strive to make sure everyone gets acknowledgement for their accomplishments. I try and make everyone feel confident in themselves and hope that they can confide in me if needed! I try and show leadership and mentor the teammates younger than me.

Athletic highlights and how you felt when you received them:

When I received the MVP award at Best of the West, I felt recognized. I work immensely hard on and off the court to be my best self. So, when someone who had only watched me that weekend play, and furthermore decided that I deserved the MVP award, it meant a lot to me. I felt fulfilled.

What are your interests outside of sports? Why do you like them?

I love listening to and analyzing music. Wherever I am, I always have a song playing in my head. During warm ups, part of my routine is to listen to some of my favourite songs to prepare myself for the upcoming game. I’ve been raised in a household with big hearts, and a large variety of music tastes. In which, I’ve had music in my life since I can remember. My other interest is writing. I love writing down my thoughts, or writing a story. I’ve been a strong writer ever since I was little and have always loved it!

Who are your role models and why?

One of my role models is my mom. She is my #1 supporter and I can count the amount of games she’s missed on one hand. I always have her in my corner and can rely on her if I need. She’s strong, smart and never dims herself for anyone. I strive to be like her when I’m older. My other role model is Chairite Luper. She’s an undersized player on the Louisville Cardinals, she’s fierce, and never lets anything stop her from being one of the best. She’s proven many people wrong with her ability and size. She inspires me and shows me that anyone can do anything they set their minds to.

Involvement in other sports or extracurricular. Why is it important for you?

I’ve played many other sports since I was little such as basketball, softball and I’ve been involved in track and field as well. I quit softball in Grade 7, because there wasn’t any other team my age to carry on to in my town, so I was forced to quit. I also stopped playing basketball this year. I did this not because I didn’t like basketball, but to focus on volleyball and be my best self mentally and physically for club and upcoming events. The other sport I still participate in is track and field. I run the 200m and do long jump. Having a secondary sport is important for me because it is helpful for training, and having other things to focus on besides volleyball.

Academic highlights and how you felt when you received them?

When I had won the academic award in Grade 9, I felt very accomplished. I had been playing club volleyball, doing track and field, playing basketball, and playing high school volleyball that year, so I was proud of myself for balancing schoolwork with sports. As a student athlete, It can be hard to stay on top of studies with having practice and tournaments almost every weekend. Receiving this award showed me that my hard work during the school year didn’t go unnoticed by my teachers.

What program would you like to attend in school?

I’m interested in a variety of programs; Psychology (Forensic or Sports), Forensic Sciences, Biology, Criminal Law and/or Criminology.

How do you envision your school life in college/university?

I would love to be playing post secondary and being a student athlete. I envision myself working hard, and enjoying life. I think I would flourish in university, exceeding my own expectations. I’m excited for what the future has in store within that period of time and think it will be amazing within whatever happens!
