Volleyball showcases, camps and tournaments are great opportunities to get in front of college and university coaches and should be considered as another tool to your volleyball recruiting process. However, at Six Pack Recruiting, we will tell all who ask to be wary of some events for a couple reasons: 1. Many showcases are often more lucrative for the hosts than beneficial for the athletes; and 2. A high number of volleyball athletes compared to coaches at these events makes it difficult for individual players to stand out. That being said, you can and should still participate in these events!

Here are some key points to consider before you sign up:

1. Do Your Research and Be Selective with Your Events

Not all volleyball showcases are created equal. To maximize your chances of getting noticed, focus on elite showcases, ID camps run by your target school, or events with a strong reputation for being athlete-focused. A low athlete-to-coach ratio indicates a worthwhile event, ensuring more personalized attention and better opportunities to showcase your skills. Prioritize events where your target schools will be in attendance. You increase your chances of meaningful interactions with coaches with this targeted approach. Futhermore, decide on whether you’re more interested in paritipating in volleyball showcases in Canada or the U.S.

2. Participate at the Right Time

Timing is crucial. Especially, as a Canadian athlete who intends to travel to the U.S. for volleyball showcases or tournaments. Be mindful of the NCAA recruiting calendar when selecting events. NCAA coaches cannot attend and recruit during their quiet and dead periods, which in turn would be a wasted effort. Instead, choose events during evaluation periods when coaches are actively scouting talent. This strategic timing ensures that your performance is seen by the right people at the right time, enhancing your chances of making a significant impression.

Here are some volleyball showcases in Canada that you might want to consider:

3. Have Fun!

While the primary goal of attending showcases and tournaments is to get noticed, it’s important to manage expectations and enjoy the experience. Don’t approach these events with the sole expectation of being recruited on the spot. Instead, view them as valuable learning opportunities and a chance to play against volleyball athletes you normally wouldn’t encounter. This mindset can alleviate pressure and allow you to perform at your best, showcasing your skills naturally. Enjoying the experience can also reflect positively on you, as coaches often look for players who demonstrate passion.

There may be many more factors as to whether you should or shouldn’t attend events like these. Having someone in your corner to help you strategize your recruiting process is highly invaluable. Moreover, do your research and sign up for reputable events, whether it be volleyball showcases in Canada or the U.S., school ID camps or major tournaments. Include these events as part of your recruiting strategy, but manage your expectations of recruitment from them and have fun!
