Describe how you work in a team.

On my volleyball team, my role is like a puzzle piece that fits perfectly with the others. I do many things such as serving, passing, and hitting the ball to help our team succeed. During games, I can switch up my job to match what the team needs. I talk a lot with my teammates, giving them pep talks and advice to keep us all on track. Not only during matches but also off the court, I’m a cheerleader, lifting everyone’s spirits and ensuring we stay positive. Learning is essential to me, so I’m always finding new ways for our team to get better. What I love most about being in a team is the feeling of togetherness. We support each other, celebrate wins, and learn from losses. It’s like having a second family that shares the same passion for the game, and that’s what makes being in a team so special to me.

Receiving each of these accomplishments brought about a sense of achievement and satisfaction. The pride wasn’t just for my personal success but also for my hardworking teammates. I felt very grateful to be a part of such an exceptional team, and the unwavering support from my fellow coaches and family.

What are your interests outside of sports? Why do you like them?

When I’m not playing sports, spending time with my family is something that makes me happy. my family consists of my mom, dad, aunt, sister and my dog. I love the feeling of being with them and how well we all fit together. I love how the time I spend with them slowly becomes memories I cherish forever. Another thing I enjoy is baking. Baking is like a kind of magic that forms when I mix simple ingredients. Baking is not just about being creative as it also makes others happy when they taste the things I make. It’s calming for me, like a way to feel good and focused. And when I share what I bake with friends and family, and see them smile, it makes me feel even more at ease. I also love spending time in nature. Whether it’s walking in the park, going on a hike, or just chilling by a quiet lake, being outside surrounded by nature is super calming for me. The fresh air, the sounds of leaves, and birds singing all make me feel peaceful and relaxed. It’s like the opposite of a volleyball tournament. Nature helps me take a break from the busy things I have going on in my life and gives me energy again.

Who are your role models and why?

My role models include my Mother, my Grandma and Zehra Gunes. Ive never seen a more hardworking person than my mom. Mom is my source of strength and kindness. She’s shown me the importance of working hard, staying positive, and caring for others. As a Nurse, she has the ability to do all 3, which I couldn’t ask to be an even greater gift from her. Her ability to manage both a successful career and a loving family is truly remarkable. My Grandma’s wisdom is my guide. Her stories taught me to adapt, be grateful, and find joy in life’s simple moments. she taught me to be strong because life is challenging. Her resilience in tough times inspires me to stay strong and keep a positive. Lastly, Zehra Gunes is my role model because she is a leader who breaks barriers. She’s proof that women can excel in male-dominated fields which inspires me to try new things. Her ability to help others succeed, drives me to push boundaries and create positive changes in my life.

Involvement in other sports or extracurricular. Why is it important for you?

Outside of volleyball, I play flag football, and track and field in school. This is important to me because When I play flag football, I learn how to work well with a team and make quick decisions. These skills directly help me in volleyball, where teamwork and thinking on my feet are super important. In track and field, I’ve learned how to keep pushing myself to get better. This mindset carries over to volleyball which I value very much. The determination I gain from track and field helps me stay motivated and work hard for my goals and future. flag football and track and field don’t just add fun to my life, they give me skills and attitudes that make me a better volleyball player.

Academic highlights and how you felt when you received them?

Being recognized on the Grade 11 Honour Roll meant a lot to me. It reflected the consistent effort and dedication I put into my studies. This achievement not only boosted my confidence but also reminded me that hard work pays off. It also reminded me that next year was going to be more challenging so I must continue to strive through the rest of my High school year. Being awarded St. Martin Club for my Grade 10 year, showcased my ability to manage my time effectively. Balancing academic pursuits with extracurricular activities highlighted my ability to multitask. This accomplishment taught me the importance of discipline and and made me feel that I could take on anything in life if I put my mind to it.

What program would you like to attend in school?

The program I would like to attend in school is psychology. Understanding how our minds work and why we do the things we do really interests me. I want to learn about emotions, thoughts, and behaviours, and how they affect people’s lives. With this knowledge, I hope to help people improve their mental well-being and create positive changes in our communities.

How do you envision your school life in college/university?

In college/university, I see myself balancing my love for playing volleyball with my studies. On the academic side, I’ll be going to classes, learning new things, and managing my time well. But what’s really exciting is being part of the volleyball team. I’ll be practicing, playing matches, and building strong friendships with my teammates. This experience will not only help me grow as an athlete but also teach me important life skills like teamwork and leadership. By combining my passion for volleyball with my education, I look forward to a fulfilling and rewarding college/university journey.
