Five words you can use to describe yourself as a high performance athlete.
Five words you can use to describe yourself off your field of play.
Describe how you work in a team.
Athletic highlights and how you felt when you received them:
What are your interests outside of sports? Why do you like them?
My interests outside of school are mainly hanging out with friends and doing other sports for fun. I used to be a multi-sport athlete until I became locked in on volleyball. Basketball, tennis, and track were my main three before I got introduced to volleyball about 4 years ago. I still do play these sports and many other and what I like about them is that is gives me a break from volleyball and teaches me new skills without even knowing that I do bring into my sport.
Secondly, my other interest is hanging out with friends. This also gives me a break from volleyball but in a different way. It gives my mind a break as well as my body. The next interest that I have only when it’s warm enough out is going to the beach. Not for beach volleyball but for swimming in the Okanagan lake and paddle boarding. Laying on a paddle board in the lake is one hundred percent the most relaxing activity.
Who are your role models and why?
Brandie Wilkerson, she amazes me in every way. She jumps with ease, she moves so smoothly and is incredibly fast at the net. I would love to be in her position one day on the Canadian beach team. Someone who is equally a role model to me is Melissa, Brandie’s partner. Melissa is an extraordinary defender. She reads and digs volleyballs that are almost impossible to get. Melissa inspires me, as she makes me want to try for every ball, chase down every ball even if there is no chance of getting it.
Involvement in other sports or extracurricular. Why is it important for you?
What I love to do other than beach and indoor volleyball is my personal training. Three times a week I go to a nearby CrossFit gym where I work on improving my vertical and do some conditioning. My personal trainer has created a program specific for me.
Not only are they a CrossFit gym but also have nutritionists and physiotherapists who help me improve my nutrition as well as mobility. The reason why I love going to this gym is not only to improve how I play but also because of the amazing energy from all the members and coaches.
I also enjoy many other sports that I do not play competitively. I highly enjoy tennis and basketball, they are important to me because they make me use my body in different ways and allow the muscles I use very repetitively for volleyball a break.
