Understanding key volleyball recruiting dates is something you’ll want to consider when navigating your recruiting journey. While in Canada, we don’t have written rules on the recruiting calendar, there are many unspoken rules that coaches will follow. For today’s article, we’ll focus solely on NCAA recruiting dates.

Every sport and division follows its own NCAA recruiting calendar, but there are a few major milestones every athlete should be aware of. As we’re officially in the month of May, one of those key recruiting dates is quickly approaching!

Let’s take a look at those important dates and why they need to be locked in your calendar, specifically if you’re considering NCAA Division 1 Volleyball and Beach Volleyball.

Volleyball Recruiting Date: June 15th of Sophomore Year

(Grade 10)

Why is June 15th so important?

June 15th of your sophomore year (Grade 10) is arguably the most important date for recruitable volleyball athletes. This is the official date when NCAA coaches can contact athletes and their parents, and start the two-way conversation about their recruiting process. If you’ve started your recruiting process prior to, you’ll know that the communication is very one-sided, with little to no response from coaches.

As of June 15th in Grade 10, NCAA coaches can now:

  • Call, text, and email you directly
  • Have recruiting conversations with you and your family
  • Start building a real relationship

This is also a potentially big moment with hard decisions ahead! If you’ve been active in your recruiting process, following a solid plan and working with the right support, you might be pleasantly surprised to have offers on the table! A spot on the roster at your dream school and even athletic funding offered! That being said, all of this communication can happen faster than you know and we don’t recommend attacking June 15th on your own, without someone who knows the recruiting rules or knows how to negotiate on your behalf.

While this is a huge milestone in the NCAA division 1 volleyball recruiting calendar, waiting until June 15th to begin your recruiting journey is a mistake. Volleyball—and beach volleyball—is extremely competitive, and coaches often start identifying talent as early as Grade 9.

If you’re not on their radar before June 15th, you may already be behind.

That’s why being proactive is key. Working with a trusted recruiter, like Six Pack Recruiting Sports, allows someone to advocate for you early—having conversations and building connections before coaches are allowed to speak with you directly. When June 15th hits, you’re not starting from scratch—you’re stepping into conversations that are already in motion, and in some cases, even receiving offers right away.

Volleyball Recruiting Date: August 1st going into Junior Year

(Going Into Grade 11)

The next major milestone in the NCAA recruiting calendar is August 1st before your Junior year.

This is when Official visits can begin.

Before this date:

  • Any campus visits are unofficial
  • You must pay your own way
  • You cannot have recruiting conversations with coaches during visits

After August 1st:

  • Schools can host you on Official visits (often covering expenses for the athlete)
  • You can meet the team and coaching staff
  • You can have in-depth recruiting conversations

Official visits are a game-changer. They give you a real sense of the program—what the culture is like, how you fit within the team, and what your potential role could be. If you’re serious about playing at the next level, this is where clarity starts to come together.

Other Key Volleyball Recruiting Dates to Know

Beyond June 15th and August 1st, it’s important to understand the different periods within the NCAA recruiting calendar, as they directly impact communication and exposure.

Contact Periods – Coaches can evaluate you, watch you compete, and communicate freely, on or off campus.

Quiet Periods – Coaches cannot watch you play off-campus but can still communicate.

Dead Periods – No in-person contact is allowed, and visits are restricted

Knowing these windows helps you understand:

  • When coaches might be watching you compete
  • Why responses to your emails may be delayed
  • When to be most proactive with outreach

We mention it time and time again, the recruiting process isn’t just about talent—it’s about timing, strategy, and preparation. Having the right strategy and the right recruiter in your corner can take your recruiting process to the next level.

Knowing key volleyball recruiting dates, especially June 15th, can give you a major advantage.

If you take one thing away, let it be this: don’t wait for June 15th to start your recruiting journey. By the time coaches are allowed to contact you, the most prepared athletes are already ahead.

Stay informed, stay proactive, and put yourself in the best position to succeed.
